yellow dyes are the most common of natural dyes, existant in a wide variety of herbs, shrubs and trees. generally composed of flavins and flavinoids, these colors are subject to fading on exposure to sunlight, although this can be hindered by proper care and attention in dyeing. the strongest of natural yellows are those extracted from Wau (Reseda luteola) and American Black oak, (Quercus Velutina), while Peach leaf (Prunus sp.) gives a splendid, if less colorfast yellow. Osage Orange is one of very few dyestuffs obtained from the wood of a tree, Maclura pomifera .
